AS/NZS 3760 Compliance Guide
Everything you need to know about electrical safety compliance for New Zealand workplaces.
What is AS/NZS 3760?
AS/NZS 3760 is the New Zealand standard for in-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment. It defines the requirements for inspecting and testing electrical equipment to ensure it remains safe for use in the workplace.
Who Needs to Comply?
All New Zealand businesses and organisations that use electrical equipment in the workplace must comply with AS/NZS 3760. This includes offices, factories, construction sites, schools, hospitals, and any other workplace with electrical equipment.
Testing Frequencies
Testing frequency depends on the environment: Construction sites require 3-monthly testing, factories and warehouses require 6-monthly testing, and offices and retail require 12-monthly testing. Hostile environments require more frequent testing.
What Gets Tested?
All portable electrical equipment including power tools, computers, printers, kettles, microwaves, extension leads, power boards, and RCDs. The testing includes visual inspection, earth continuity test, insulation resistance test, and earth leakage test.
Documentation Requirements
Each tested item must be tagged with test date, next due date, and result. An asset register must be maintained, and compliance reports should be available for inspection by WorkSafe NZ or other regulators.
